Before we can discuss more I would like to give you some examples. You have noticed that some people are older than 100 years. I am introducing you with a man who died at the age of 122, Jeanne Calment. But we are generally not familiar with that age group. Because very few people live more than 100 years.
So we can not say any fixed age about how long a human being can live. But we can make an average. And this average is still not the same for all geographical areas. In some geographical areas humans are more alive. In some geographical areas humans live less time. Even in the same geographical area all tribes have not the same time of living.
Now we can easily discuss lifespan. In the short life span of an organism is that time interval between birth and natural death. It is different species to species. Now what is natural death. It means simply the death which is natural. Suppose a person dies at the age of 50 years by an accident. Here death is not natural.
So we can not say the life span of human beings is 50 years. In the case of human beings it is different in different geographical areas. It implies in the case of other organisms as well as in the case of human beings the meaning of life span is the same. So the years, months, days, hours, minutes and seconds at which you are alive is your lifespans.
For example, the lifespans of elephants is 70 years. Lifespans is 20 years. Lifespans of a butterfly is 1 to 2 weeks. Lifespans of a crow is 15 years. Lifespan of a banana tree is 25 years. Lifespans of a cow is 18 years. Lifespans of a parrot is 140 years. Lifespans of a cat is 2 to 16 years, variety to variety.

Lifespans: Most Frequently Asked Question
1.Whether human lifespan will increase in the future or not
If you notice carefully the data of 100 years then you will find human lifespans increased. It may be due to improvement in health care. People are becoming hygienic day by day. In some countries it became less due to some lifestyle diseases like obesity, cancer etc.
But if you notice the data of 4000 to 6000 years then you will find it is decreasing with time. In earlier more than 5000 years it was around 500-600 years lifespan. But now all of us know what its value is. If you notice more data on a wide range of time period then you will find up and down on this lifespans value.
2. Is it possible to extend our lifespan
In my opinion it is possible. Before we discuss increasing our lifespans, we should discuss what factors decrease our lifespan. In cells there are chromosomes and at the tip of each chromosome there are segments called telomeres. Length of telomere is related to lifespans. With time that length of telomere decreases.
So our time how much we live will decrease. If we slow down this telomere length, we can extend our lifespan. There are many factors which affect the telomere length. Exercise, weight, a proper diet, and a healthy lifestyle have great influence on telomere length.
If we exercise regularly, maintain a healthy diet, practice good lifestyle then we can slow down the length shortening of telomeres. If you want to just start then you start regular exercise, maintain a proper diet. Just try to live a better lifestyle.
3. It is impossible to extend human lifespan: Why
You can extend your lifespans up to 125 years. But after that, extending is nearly impossible. To live, our cells should divide. With time DNA damage increases. So cells don’t work properly. Cell division slows down. Length of telomere decreases continuously. With time mitochondria also become inefficient.
We know that mitochondria is our power house. Without energy we can’t survive. It is the cell biology perspective of lifespan. For now we have no other way to extend our lifespans. Maybe in the future we can find a link to extend our lifespan. But now it is upto 125 years.
4. What is the average lifespan of Chihuahuas
It is 12-14 years. But some remain alive more than 15 years. In case of major disease you can not expect more. In the case of old dogs cardiovascular disease is more common. After the age of 14 it becomes more common. In most cases they die due to cardiovascular disease.
Till now most age recorded is 20 years old dogs named as megabytes. Sometimes they die in early age due to cancer. Their lifespan also depends upon their diets, genetics and their environment where they live. Indoor Chihuahuas have more lifespans than outdoor Chihuahuas.
5. What is the average lifespan of a fly
Lifespans of a fly depends upon its species. All fly species live for different spans. Not only depends upon species lifespan of a fly vary with climatic conditions, temperature, availability of food and many other factors. However we can figure out an average lifespans of a fly.
For example, the lifespans of a housefly is around 10-70 days. Lifespan of a fruit fly is 15 – 25 days. Lifespan of a drain fly is 6- 15 days. Lifespan of a face fly is 8- 16 days.
Lifespans of a horse fly is 16- 32 days. Lifespans of a flesh fly 9-15 days. Lifespan of a deer fly is 17- 33 days. Lifespans of a cluster fly is 10- 20 days. Lifespans of a blowfly 8- 18 days. Lifespans of a phorid fly 7- 20 days. Lifespan of a midges 2-10 days.
Lifespans of a dobsonfly 2-12 days. Lifespans of a stable fly 4-10 days. Lifespan of a fungus gnat 8-10 days. Lifespans of an eye gnat 8-20 days. Lifespans of a sand gnat 5-12 days. Lifespans of a buffalo gnat 8- 15 days.
6. What is lifespan of cats
Lifespans of cats depends upon the surroundings around the cat. If the cat is an outdoor cat then the cat is directly exposed to various kinds of dangers. Dangers mean accident, other enemy animal, infection. Sometimes due to food poison their lifespan becomes very short.
In the case of indoor cats a lot of dangers are not available here. But yet some dangers remain indoors also. For example household chemicals which may be poison for cats. There are many plants which are harmful to cats. Even we should consider the diet of cats which gives impact on cats lifespan.
If everything is okay then comes the matter of genetics. Lifespan of cats depends upon breed also. All the cat breeds vary their lifespan a little bit. If we take great care then we can expect upto 17 years plus.
7. What is the average lifespan of a dog
Average lifespans of a dog is between 12 to 15 years. But in some cases it may be more than 20. But it is a very rare case. There are many reasons why most of them do not reach maximum longevity. Sometimes we give over vaccines. Which is not necessary. It is also harmful for dogs. Many people do not give proper attention to their pet’s diets.
In some pet’s food there are some ingredients which are not good for health. These ingredients sometimes act as toxic for dogs. Even the chemical cosmetic which we use to bathe them is also harmful for them. Over breeding is also an issue. Sometimes due to demand for good traits dogs are exploited in over breed. It gives a bad impact on overall longevity.
8. What is average lifespan of horses
On an average lifespans of a horse is around 25 years. But it is not the same for all. Horses which are exploited extensively have less average lifespan. Like the horses used for race generally live shorter than others. They don’t live more than others because of overworking. Some breeds live more than 40 years.
For example Haflinger breeds are recorded to live 40-46 years. Due to some parasites, like worms, they may die before 21 years. Lifespan also depends upon food provided to them. Proper exercise also increases their lifespan. If it is a racing horse then it should be considered that if they are not tested properly then it can cause shorter lifespan.
9. What is average lifespan of a mosquito
Lifespans of a mosquito depends upon species, season, their environment and many other factors. It also depends upon gender. In case of male anopheles mosquito lifespan is about a week. But in the case of female anopheles mosquito lifespan is more than males.
It is about 1-2 months. They bite humans and feed on human blood. It requires the egg to develop. As we know that they transfer parasites. So we always try to finish them. So lifespan becomes limited. Even the lifespan of a mosquito depends upon temperature.
10. What is average lifespan of a golden retriever dog
In general the lifespan of golden retriever is around 10-12 years. But it depends upon how much care we take. If we provide good nutrition, visit veterinary doctors regularly, maintain proper hygiene, go through proper exercise then we can expect more than that lifespan. Specially we should take care about their food. It has the most important role in longevity. We should give good quality nutrition rich foods.
Grooming is also important in case of these species. Proper bathing also keeps them healthy. Sometimes due to some parasites their lifespans becomes short. After taking great care due to some serious illness they die. Some diseases are rarely curable. In that case we can not expect more longevity.
11. What is average lifespan of an elephant
Elephants are the largest living mammals on our earth. But it doesn’t mean that it also has the longest lifespans. Lifespan doesn’t depend upon the size of an animal. So there are many examples with tiny size but have more lifespan as compared to larger sized animals. In general the lifespan of an elephant is around 50-72 years.
But the longest lifespan elephant is 82 years old. It depends upon species. For example Asian elephants live upto 70 years. For African elephants it is around 65 years. But if we take care properly they can live upto 85 years. Longest lifespan of an Asian elephant is 86 years old. Longest living Asian elephant was Lin Wang.
12. What is average lifespans of a parrot
Parrots have around 279 species. All of them have different lifespans. For example African gray parrots live 45-65 years. Parakeets live for 10-20 years. Canaries live for more than 12 years. Finches live for more than 10 years. Eclectus parrots live for more than 50 years. Macaws live more than 50 years.
Amazon parrots live for more than 75 years. Doves more than 20 years. Senegal parrots live around 50 years. Their lifespan depends upon cage or free life. Their lifespan also depends upon food they got. Due to malnutrition they die before average lifespan. So we can summarise lifespan as minimum 30 years and maximum 100 years.
13. What is average lifespan of an ant
Not only depends upon species, the lifespans of an ant also depends upon caste. In an ant colony there are some castes depending upon their role on the colony. Workers ants live long as they need for the long term. Male or drones live shorter than females. Male have to live upto fertilization of eggs.
So they do not need to live after fertilization. On the other hand female ants have to live after fertilization for development of eggs. Even in the case of some species, female ants live upto 30 years. Drone lives for only a few weeks. Soldiers also have lots of work in the colony. But they don’t live more than workers.
14. What is average lifespan of a hamster
In general the lifespan of a hamster is around 3.5 years. But it varies with breed. In case of some breed they live only for 2-3 years. In case of some other breeds they live more than 5 years. They are prone to cold disease. Due to bacterial infection they die soon. They are prone to respiratory disease from cold.
They may be infected by humans also. So humans should take care when they touch them. So frequently sanitization can reduce the chances. Sometimes due to cage structure they are injured. So cage structure is also important. Their bedding is also important. Bedding made of unusual matter can cause irritation to them.
15. What is average lifespan of a butterfly
Lifespans of butterflies depends upon various factors. Most important factor is its species. Lifespan of butterflies varies with species. For example Monarch butterflies have a lifespan of 9 months. Lifespan of a Painted lady butterfly is around 1 year. But in general it is only one month.
Not only species lifespans of butterflies also depends upon their size. Small sized butterflies live less than larger size butterflies. Season is also an important factor. They are cold blooded. So climate plays an important role. On which egg hatches have a great importance on the lifespan of butterflies.
16. What is average lifespan of a rabbit
In general, household rabbits live around 8- 13 years. Lifespan of dwarf breed rabbits are more than giant breed rabbits. Dwarf breed rabbits live more than 10 years. But giant breed rabbits live less than 11 year in general. Diet plays important roles in their lifespan. Proper diet with vitamin, mineral and other essential ingredients help to improve health.
Healthy rabbits obviously live long. Some parasitic diseases reduce the lifespan of rabbits. These diseases can be avoided through various precautions. Like washing hands before and after touching a rabbit, proper cleaning of the rabbit cage. Cancer is also a lifespans reducing factor in case of rabbits.
Male rabbit and female rabbit both are prone to cancer. Sometimes neutering gives protection against cancer. But it is not recommended until it becomes necessary. Indoor or outdoor it also determines its lifespan. Outdoor conditions are necessary for a better mental state of rabbits. Outdoor is observed to live more than indoor. Rabbit with the longest lifespans is recorded from the USA at the age of 16.
17. What is average lifespan of goldfish
Goldfish do not live more than a few weeks. It is known for its short lifespan. But in actual fact goldfish can live more than that short period. Actually goldfish have a lifespan more than other general aquarium fish. Fancy goldfish can live upto 5-10 years. Common goldfish live more than fancy goldfish.
Goldie is a goldfish famous for its long lifespan. Goldie died a few years ago at the age of 45 years. But now the question is why most of the goldfish die before 15 years. In most cases we are unable to maintain the quality water which suits them. Also due to bad quality of food responsible for their short lifespan.
18. What is average lifespan of a squirrel
In general a squirrel can live upto 25 years. It is more than other household pet animals. But in reality it is hard to reach that age. Because before it most of the squirrels die. In most of the cases squirrels live upto 10 years. Because in practice they face many dangers.
Generally male squirrels live more than females squirrels. American red squirrel lifespans is 2-8 years. Lifespan of a fox squirrel is 12 – 17 years. Southern flying squirrels can live from 3 years to 5 years. Lifespans of eastern grey squirrel can live from 10 to 25 years. Black squirrels live to around 17-18 years.
19. What is average lifespan of a Shih Tzu
In general a Shih Tzu lives from 11 years to 17 years. Highest living Shih Tzu is recorded to die at the age of 23. But unfortunately due to some reason most of the Shih Tzu do not reach even 10 years. In case of puppies major death occurs due to infection. It can be prevented by administration of proper vaccines.
Sometimes due to some accident they die. Cancer is also a major reason for the death of Shih Tzu. Mammary gland cancer, bone cancer are frequently observed. Urinary system disease is also responsible for their early death. Specially bladder, kidney disease are more seen in case of Shih Tzu.
20. What is average lifespan of RBC cell
Inside an adult body RBC can live from 80 days to 140 days. So inside an adult body the average lifespans of an RBC is 120 days. But in the case of a neonatal body RBC lives from 60 days to 90 days. In the case of infants it is 35 days to 50 days. If it is kept outside of the body then it can live for a maximum 2 hours.
But outside the body we can preserve it. If we preserve RBC at the temperature of 6 degree centigrade then it becomes alive upto 42 days. If we preserve RBC at the temperature of -65 degree centigrade then it can be alive upto 10 years.
21. What is average lifespan of a WBC cell
Lifespan is different for different types of WBC cells. Neutrophils live from 5 days to a few days. Eosinophils live 7 days to 13 days. Basophil live from a few hours to a few days. Lymphocytes live a few weeks to a few years. Monocytes live from a few hours to a few days. But when the body faces many infections they die quickly.
They have to overwork at peak level of infection. So don’t live more at the time of infection. Even in some cases they hardly live for a few hours during serious infection. If infection is less they live more. On an average we can assume that the lifespan of a normal WBC cell is between 15 days to 20 days.
22. What is average lifespan of platelets
Lifespans of platelets is very short. Lifespan of platelets can be determined by tracer techniques. On an average lifespan of a platelet is from 7 days to 10 days. But during some specific infections lifespan can be reduced than normal lifespan. For example, during malaria lifespan reduces.
During malaria a platelet can live only 3 days to 4 days. Lifespan of platelets depends on many physiological activities. In other animals the lifespan of platelets is not the same as in the case of humans. For example, the lifespan of a mouse is about 5 days.
23. What is average lifespan of an Yorkshire Terrier (Yorkie)
What is average lifespans of an Yorkshire Terrier (Yorkie) : short answer 12 years to 15 years. On an average lifespan of a Yorkie is 13 years. But female yorkie live more than males. In general female Yorkie live one to 1.5 years more than males. But teacup yorkie live only upto 10 years. Main reason for their short lifespan is they are prone to some serious diseases.
Special care can extend their lifespans. Distemper is the most frequently observed disease seen in Yorkshire Terrier. In this case due to infection on the digestive tract and respiratory system they show various systems. Like cough, weakness, diarrhoea. Another most frequently observed disease is leptospirosis.
In some cases leptospirosis results in kidney damage. Parvovirus is also a major reason for early death. Though vaccination can reduce parvovirus infection, sometimes it becomes out of control. Cancer, trauma, and other respiratory system disease can be responsible for their early death.
24. What is average lifespan of cow
What is average lifespans of cow : short answer 18 years to 22 years. It depends on breed, for what purpose they used. Dairy cows can live upto 5 years to 6 years. Beef cows are prone to slaughter early. They rarely reach upto 2 years. Bull can live upto 10 years. Some breeds of cows can live upto 20 years.
Some cows even become productive after the age of 15 years. They give calves at that age. Due to some major fatal diseases preventing them long. Lifespan also depends on their feeding. Which type of pasture they are using. Sometimes they get injury from pasture which can reduce their lifespan.
25. What is average lifespan of turtle and tortoise
What is average lifespans of turtle and tortoise : short answer 10 years to 70 years for pet turtles, more than 100 years in case of wild species. Small sized turtles are generally used as pets. Their lifespan is around 40 years. But big sized turtle species live more than 100 years. Lifespan of turtles varies from species to species. For example wood turtles live up to 50 years. Russian tortoises live more than 42 years.
Greek and leopard tortoises live more than 100 years. In India it has been recorded to live upto 255 years, Adwaita is a giant turtle. Then at the second number comes Timothy. Timothy is known for living upto 160 years. Then Jonathan, Harriet also known for their long lifespan. So turtles can live more than 200 years if great care is taken.
26. What is average lifespan of an eagle
What is average lifespans of an eagle : short answer is up to 70 years. But most of the eagles can’t reach that age. One of the major reasons for their short lives is failure to catch prey. When they try to catch prey in 80 percent cases they fail. So if they don’t succeed in collecting their food, they get zero profit.
But they use their energy to try to collect their food. Otherwise bad weather, human interference also has an impact on their lifespan. Oldest bald eagles died at the age of 38 years. Most of the time they live less or more than 20 years.
27. What is average lifespan of a crocodile
What is average lifespans of a crocodile : short answer less or more like a human being. Lifespan of a crocodile varies from species to species. But in general most of the species live from 30 years to 40 years. But bigger species live more than 60 years. If they are kept in zoos they live more than other wild crocodiles.
Because in zoos they get great care. They get proper nutrition, medical care. So they live more than others. Even in some cases crocodiles of more than 120 years are observed. Also their lifespan varies with the nature of water where they live. Fresh water or salt water also determine their lifespan.
28. What is the maximum human lifespan
Human lifespans means the time between birth of a human to his or her natural death. It is not the same for all countries. For example,
For the United Kingdom it is 79-83.
For the USA it is 76-81.
For South Africa it is 59- 63.
For Singapore it is 80-85.
For Saudi Arabia it is 73 – 75.
For Russia it is 65-76.
For New Zealand it is 80-83.
For Japan it is 80-87.
For Italy it is 80 – 85.
However humans in any country can live up to 79 years on an average. Some people are reported to live more than 100 years. But some people even can not cross 50 years. If we take care we can easily cross 100 years. But we everyday get influenced by various ageing factors. Which sometimes causes death before average lifespan.
Nowadays very few people’s death occurs via natural death. Most of the people don’t take care so they can not attain natural death. By smoking, crossing roads in wrong ways, driving without caution, and unhealthy lifestyles we reduce our lifespan.
29. What is the best way to estimate life span
1st of all tell me why you are so interested to find out your lifespans. Suppose you know at what age you will die. Suppose I tell you that you will die at 200 years old. What are your benefits? And if anyone knows that he will die a few seconds later. Now tell me what will happen to him. Maybe he died before predicted lifespan due to fear of death.
So why should we not remain suspenseful? You have lost your past. You have no control over your future. You have only control on what you are doing now. Just relax and do your best. And finally in my opinion no one can predict his lifespan with 100% accuracy. You will find so many people around you who demand that they can tell you your lifespan.
But it is now the matter of belief. If you give your best you will get many opportunities from the world that you can’t imagine. So don’t worry about lifespan just focus on your work and obviously it should be positive.
If you want more information about lifespans then you can research more on Google or YouTube or Wikipedia.
