Causes and Symptoms of Amoebiasis – Imaluop

Hi, today we are going to learn about a disease caused by a protozoa Amoeba called Amoebiasis along with causes and symptoms of Amoebiasis. Amoeba and some other protozoa are present in water bodies and often cause infection in human beings and other animals. Below we will discuss all aspects of the disease caused by Amoeba Amoebiasis, its causes, its symptoms and treatment.

What is Amoebiasis:

Amoebiasis is a dysentery-like disease which is caused by protozoa and called amoebic dysentery. Protozoan parasite Entamoeba Histolytica causes infection in the large intestine and causes serious illness in human beings.

They multiply in our large intestine and they lay eggs and form cyst which goes out of the body through stool and causes diarrhoea. If the stool mixes with water and the contaminated water anyone takes as drinking water or contaminated food taken by anyone then other people also get infected by spores or egg of Entamoeba Histolytica.

And again the protozoa multiply and lay eggs which occur continuously in cycle. It causes the spread of the protozoa and the disease Amoebiasis then spread rapidly.

Causes of Amoebiasis:

The disease Amoebiasis is caused by protozoa Entamoeba Histolytica in different ways which we will discuss below.

Bad Sanitary:

If an area does not have good sanitary then it increases the possibility of infection by parasitic protozoa Entamoeba Histolytica because the eggs or spores are present in the area of bad sanitation.

Food Contaminated by Spore of Entamoeba Histolytica:

The spore or eggs present in the stool of the infected and when another healthy person takes contaminated food or water then the spore or eggs of Entamoeba Histolytica hatch inside the intestine of the healthy person.

Swallowing of Cyst:

If the cyst of Entamoeba Histolytica reaches a healthy person in any other way then it causes Amoebiasis in a healthy person. If a person comes close to the fecal matter of the infected person which contains the eggs or spore of Entamoeba Histolytica then it causes infection in the healthy person.

The cyst can survive for a long time without a host which makes the chances more higher to infect.

Open Street Foods Can Cause Amoebiasis:

Sometimes the spore reaches at Street Foods if the food handlers do not follow proper hygiene then the spore can present in food. If the street food remains open for a long time then there is a very chance to infect the food by the spore of Entamoeba Histolytica because it can be carried by air or other vector like housefly.

Contaminated Drinking Water:

Improper fecal management sometimes causes mixing of fecal matter to water bodies nearby. Sometimes the spore is present in fertilizers which are used in agriculture for plant growth.

The spores present in fertilizers easily reach local water bodies during rain and when the water bodies are used for drinking purposes it causes infection in healthy people.

What Happens When the Entamoeba Histolytica Cyst Reach in Our Body:

The spore or eggs come in the digestive tract through contaminated water or food hatch and release the active trophozoite form in our digestive tract. Then they start to make burrows on the wall of Intestine which cause destruction of tissues in Intestine. For this reason various symptoms like abdominal pain, diarrhoea with blood and mucous occur in the infected person.

Symptoms of Amoebiasis:

When spores or eggs of Entamoeba Histolytica enter in our body and multiply, then following symptoms are observed in the infected person.

Diarrhoea with blood and mucous, fever, nausea, abdominal pain, abnormal weight loss indicate about Amoebiasis but it needs diagnosis before confirmation and start medication.

Treatment of Amoebiasis:

Different anti protozoan medicines like metronidazole get relief from the infected person from the Entamoeba Histolytica and luminal amoebicide can be applied for further spread of the Entamoeba Histolytica.
