Major Difference Between Egestion and Excretion – Imaluop

Major Difference Between Egestion and Excretion: Sometimes we use the Egestion and Excretion interchangeable but the two processes are completely different. To understand the difference between Egestion and Excretion we have to study about the concept of Egestion and Excretion separately. To sustain life every organism takes nutrients and the nutrients do not give energy directly after they enter the body. These nutrients go through different types of chemical reaction to release energy trapped in the foods.

After different biochemical reactions we get energy from the nutrients which we need to perform different types of activities. But during these biochemical reactions various types of byproducts are produced in which some materials are used but some materials are harmful for cells. Some materials are not very harmful but need to be removed and other materials are harmful and if they accumulate in the cell it can be dangerous for cells.

When we take food for energy food does give energy directly it needs further process. Because biomolecules in food are present in complex forms which are not possible to utilise for the cells. So it needs to be simplified before cells can utilise them to release energy trapped inside the food molecules.

This simplification occurs during digestion in the digestive tract. After digestion major parts of food break down into simple molecules which can be used by cells but some portions of food do not digest completely and they are considered as waste materials. These waste materials are not very harmful but need to be removed from the system and the process by which these undigested waste materials go outside of the body is known as Egestion.

But in case of cellular metabolism different byproducts are produced some of them are very harmful and removed from the system in different ways and the process of removal of these harmful byproducts is called Excretion.

But if we think deeply we can find that these two processes Excretion and Egestion is not observed in all organisms. In the case of plants as they are producers they are able to produce their own food in their body.

So they do not have to take food from outside to sustain their life. So there is no chance of digestion as well as Egestion. But cellular metabolism occurs in all organisms including plants. In cellular metabolism there are chances to produce some harmful chemicals which are excretory products.

So in the case of plants we can not find Egestion but we can observe excretion for sure. But in case of animals they are not able to produce their food in their body and they have to take food for energy to maintain continuity of cellular activity. So in the case of animals Egestion and Excretion both observed which differ them from plants.

Major Difference Between Egestion and Excretion Comparison Table:

EgestionExcretion
Egestion is waste products produced after digestion which is not possible to digest completely.Excretion is the result of cellular metabolic activity of living active cells.
Egestion is observed in animals but in case of plant Egestion is not applicable as they do not take food outside.Excretion occurs in both animals and plants because cellular metabolism occurs in both plants and animals and if cellular metabolism occurs then there are possibilities of producing excretory products.
Egestion occurs through an external opening which is anus in most of the cases but in some cases where there is only one opening Egestion occurs through the mouth in that case.Excretory material goes outside of the body in different ways in different organisms some have well developed organs for excretion some do not have well developed organs for excretion. For example in case of human excretion occurs through nose, skins, urethra which is considered as very well developed excretory organs.
