Hi, we are going to discuss a very important topic which covers all important functions of amino acids. We know that our body cells require amino acids for various purposes because most of the enzymes are made of protein which again is made of amino acids.
To maintain the cellular structure we need continuous supply of amino acids because amino acids are the building blocks for structural proteins. Most of the metabolic reaction occurs in our cells mediated via enzymes and to meet the requirements of enzymes we need amino acids.
Especially essential amino acids which are not synthesized in our body require special supply and protein rich diet help to meet the requirements easily.
Now we will discuss all the important functions of amino acids below in two divisions – essential amino acids and non essential amino acids.
Table of Contents
Function of Essential Amino Acids:
Function of Amino Acid Threonine:
Threonine has a great role in the immune system so we should maintain Threonine amino acids in our body to promote the stronger immunity system.
Function of Amino Acid Valine:
Valine is very important for healthy muscle growth so Valine has a great role in making us strong.
Function of Amino Acid Phenylalanine:
In our nervous system phenylalanine helps to boost our memory power.
Function of Amino Acid Tryptophan:
Tryptophan is required for producing some important biochemicals like vitamin B3 and serotonin which is necessary for various body functions. Vitamin B3 has various important functions in our metabolism and serotonin is responsible for regulating our moods and sleep.
Function of Amino Acid Methionine:
Major functions of amino acids Methionine prevent entry of harmful bacteria and these amino acids maintain healthy skin.
Function of Amino Acid Leucine:
Major function of leucine is it is required for synthesis of growth hormones and other major protein synthesis.
Function of Amino Acid Isoleucine:
Isoleucine is a very important essential amino acid because it requires to synthesize haemoglobin, oxygen transport from lungs to different tissues, it promotes the pancreas to produce insulin.
Function of Amino Acid Lysine:
Lysine performs different types of function in our body like development of bone, calcium fixation in bone and antibody production.
Function of Amino Acid Histidine:
Essential amino acid histidine is required for synthesis of red blood corpuscles and white blood corpuscles in our body.
Function of Non Essential Amino Acids:
Function of Aspartic Amino Acid:
Aspartic acid has a major role in synthesis of other amino acids and it is required for different important metabolic reactions in our body cells.
Function of Amino Acid Proline:
Proline has some great role in regeneration of skin cells and it prevents hardening the wall of arteries. Proline is also useful to repair the damaged tissue using collagen connective tissue.
Function of Amino Acid Serine:
Amino acid serine is useful to produce a major protein of the immune system and promote muscle growth.
Function of Amino Acid Asparagine:
Major constituents of DNA purine base and pyrimidine base synthesis require amino acid asparagine. Asparagine is also very important for developing the nervous system and transportation of nitrogen in the cells.
Function of Amino Acid Tyrosine:
Tyrosine is very important because it is responsible for production of important pigment melanin, constituents of thyroid hormone T3 and T4, it is also required for synthesis of some neurotransmitters.
Function of Amino Acid Cysteine:
This amino acid helps us to prevent the harmful effects of oxidant as an antioxidant.
Function of Amino Acid Glutamine:
Glutamine is important for a healthy brain and it is required for synthesis of DNA and RNA.
Function of Amino Acid Glycine:
Glycine plays important roles in healing damaged tissues and it maintains the cell growth, it also functions as a neurotransmitter.
