Hi, we are going to discuss major difference between plant and animal tissues which will help to make more clear concepts about plant tissue and animal tissue. But before we start to discuss various dissimilarities between plant and animal tissues we will give an introduction of both types of tissues animal tissue and plant tissue which will help to understand the difference between the two types of tissues.
Table of Contents
Plant Tissues:
Different cells in plants combinely work in the form of different types of plant tissues and they form different types of organs in plants like root, stem, leaves, flower.
Different Types of Plant Tissue:
1. Meristematic Tissue:
Meristematic tissue present in plant apical regions which grow to form different plant bodies, the shoot meristematic tissue grow above the ground to make stem branch, leaves, flower etcetera while root meristematic tissue grow to form root system.
Sub Apical meristematic tissue is responsible for plant growth while intercalary meristematic tissue is present in the stem at regular intervals.
2. Permanent Simple Plant Tissue:
Plant have different types of simple tissue for various functions – epidermis made of densely packed tissue which makes protective covering in plant which have stomata for gaseous exchange, parenchyma tissue made of thin walled cells with large central vacuole and perform photosynthesis in leaves, dead sclerenchyma tissue which gives mechanical support in stem and other hard structure.
3. Permanent Complex Tissue:
Plants have two major types of complex tissue: Xylem and phloem which takes part in transportation of different materials in plants like water, mineral salts and food throughout the plant body.
Animal Tissue:
We have already discussed different types of animal tissues but yet we will discuss it here again which will help you to understand the difference between plant and animal tissues clearly.
Different Types of Animal Tissues:
Depending upon the function they perform in an animal we can classify different Animal Tissues into some categories which we will discuss below.
1. Epithelial Tissue:
They are protective in nature, they give protection to the organ and tissue from mechanical injury and sometimes they perform other functions which are not protective in nature.
Most of the columnar epithelium is responsible for secrete different types of chemicals and the epithelium present in the intestine has fingers like projection called microvilli which helps in absorption of digested food.
2. Muscle Tissue:
They help animals to move from one place to another, they help to fly in some animals like birds, they perform different involuntary functions in our body like the pumping activity of the heart and peristalsis movement in our digestive system.
3. Connective Tissue:
They act as commenting agents among different tissues in our body, sometimes they give support to some other tissues. Blood is a connective tissue which circulates different materials to all body cells, bone is also a connective tissue which supports different body parts while some connective tissue like collage help to repair tissue.
4. Nervous Tissue:
Nervous tissue is very important in animals to coordinate among different body parts and the nerve cells transmit external receptors to our central nervous system which makes us aware about the external environment.
Differences Between Plant and Animal Tissues:
Animal Tissue | Plant Tissue |
If we notice carefully we will find that animal tissues are more complex in organisation than plant tissue. | Plant tissue is simpler than that of Animal Tissues in their organisation. |
Animal growth is very limited but growth occurs continuously for repair of animal tissues. | Due to the activities of meristematic tissue plants show growth throughout life unlike animal tissues. |
Animal tissues consume more metabolic energy than plants because of cellular metabolism. | Plants consume less metabolic energy than animals due to maintenance of cellular metabolism. |
In animal tissues dead cells are very few as compared to plant tissue. | Plant tissue has a large amount of dead cells because mechanical support is very important in plants. |
