Biodiversity in Plants and Animals – Imaluop

Biodiversity in Plants and Animals: Biodiversity is a term used to represent the vastness of variation in our earth due to the presence of large numbers of species which makes our earth unique. Biodiversity is generally the presence of numerous species in our environment and previously there were multiple times of species than now present day species.

In a specific ecosystem the biodiversity is represented by the numbers of species of plants, animals, microorganisms which represents the variation of the ecosystem. So biodiversity is a measure of genetic variation in an ecosystem and all the species in an ecosystem have an equal role in maintaining biodiversity.

Biodiversity also depends upon primary productivity of a species which makes the warm tropical rainforest as highest biological diversity because due to warm environmental conditions here primary productivity is much higher.

We can study various species in different scales like biodiversity in a pond or in a garden which is smaller than the biodiversity of the whole world or a geographical area which is a very large scale study of biodiversity.

Biodiversity in Plants:

Plants are very important parts of our life because all of us depend on the plants directly or indirectly for different reasons like agriculture, different plant products, foods so diversity in plants is very important for us.

From ancient times different species of plants are used for our daily needs and regularly new species are identified to explore more beneficial plants which increase plant biodiversity.

Though different species of plants are now extinct due to overexploitation, today we are much aware about it and we now prevent overexploitation to prevent their extinction which is good news for our plant biodiversity.

The main reason for protecting plant biodiversity is that the plant gives us the main fuel for our living because the oxygen which we need for our living comes from the plant so if we want to survive then we have to conserve plant biodiversity.

Many new plant species are discovered regularly which gives us great economic value like some medicinal plants, most of the medicinal plants are now not available because of human overexploitation or any other natural reason so we should preserve them if we want the value from the plant.

Now we have only a few crops to meet the food demand all over the world, if we can explore many other species then it will help to increase the food supply for global food demand and plant biodiversity is very important for sustaining those alternative plants.

We should find those species of plants who are able to tolerate extreme environmental conditions like flood, drought and other diseases so that we can meet our crop yields in such a level that become sufficient for our growing population and for this purpose we should conserve the plant biodiversity.

Different plant species which are resistant to various diseases and other extreme environmental conditions should be maintained and if possible their genes should be preserved in gene banks so we can use them in future.

Biodiversity in Animals:

Animal biodiversity is also important as plant biodiversity because we also depend upon different species of animals for various purposes like animal husband and different animal products.

Animals have been used from ancient times in different purposes like in agriculture, transport, source of food, security, aesthetic value, medicinal value but overexploitation has resulted in destruction of many animal species which reduces our animal biodiversity.

Especially due to their high value body parts they were hunted frequently in previous times which makes the rich plant biodiversity into poor animal biodiversity but now we are much aware about it and we use different methods to conserve the biodiversity by preventing them against exploitation.
