Biogas as Renewable Energy – Imaluop

Today we are going to discuss a special source of energy which is not yet conventional in most of the world. But it has very high potential in future so we should consider biogas as renewable energy and we should try to utilise this special source of energy for our daily energy requirements.

We can not depend completely on the different conventional non renewable energy because in a certain time they would exhaust us and we will not have any options for our energy requirements so if we use all possible ways to get energy then it would be efficient utilisation of our natural resources.

We should focus on different renewable sources of energy so that we do not have any fear about the insufficient energy because today in our developing population we need a sufficient amount of energy.

If we only depend upon the conventional non renewable energy then we will fail to develop our human civilization for long term continuously so we should think about the renewable energy sources.

There are different energy sources which are renewable but one among them is biogas which is our main topic now we will discuss how organic matter decomposes to produce biogas.

What is Biogas:

Biogas is a mixture of different gases which can be used as renewable energy sources and it is produced by the microbial activity on organic matter which is stored for future use. Different organic matter like waste materials of agricultural, household organic waste, manure, dung, food waste can be used for biogas production by the activities of different microorganisms which break down the organic material and produce biogas.

Biogas help us in two ways one we get energy from the organic waste which was no value for us but yet are getting energy from it and another benefit is it do not cause environmental pollution because we are using it in a proper scientific way and more on we can use the residue present after Biogas production as biofertilizers.

Basic Idea About Biogas Plant:

In biogas production different microorganisms break down the organic material anaerobic way so we should create an environment for this process and the breakdown process is run in a Biogas plant which has 5 components.

  • First component is inlet through which we introduce the organic material into the biogas plant for the further process of fermentation.
  • Second component is the fermentation chamber which is the main place for the anaerobic reaction and the production of biogas occurs in this component with the help of anaerobic microorganisms.
  • The third component of a biogas plant is the storage section where the biogas is stored temporarily after the production of biogas in the fermentation chamber.
  • Fourth component is the outlet for the organic matter which was introduced at first for biogas production and through this outlet the remaining organic material which is not required further and it is used for other purposes.
  • The final component of a biogas plant is the exit pipe through which the biogas is excited for our use in different household purposes.

Break Down of Organic Matter in Biogas Plant:

In biogas plants the complex organic material is broken down into simpler organic molecules so that the bacteria can decompose them further for production of biogas.

Then the acidogenic bacteria work on the organic material and convert into carbon dioxide, hydrogen and other organic acids and then the organic acids turn into acetic acid, hydrogen, ammonia, and carbon dioxide.

Then the methanogen bacteria start their actions and produce carbon dioxide and methane gas which is our final biogas and is stored for some time and then they are released through the exit pipe during future use.
