Hi, we are going to discuss anti-mullerian hormone general overview which will show you how anti-mullerian hormones work in our body. Anti-mullerian is a hormonal secretion which is present in both male and female secreted from reproductive tissue which have different functions in male and female.

In male anti-mullerian hormones secrete from the tissues of testes and it is required for development of reproductive organs in male. Its secretion remains at high level upto the time of puberty after which its level becomes low because their functions in male is not very much after puberty. 

In females anti-mullerian hormones secrete from ovaries and the secretion becomes very high during the time of pregnancy and before child delivery. The anti-mullerian hormone level remains low until female reach at puberty but and continue to secrete during pregnancy but decrease at a very fast rate after the menopause.  

Function of Anti-Mullerian Hormone in Human Female: 

Anti-mullerian hormone has a great role to maintain reproductive ability in human females because it has a balancing effect in the menstrual cycle. Anti-mullerian hormone helps to promote different hormonal secretion in human females, it promotes the secretion of Follicular Stimulating Hormone, Luteinizing hormone which is very important for maintaining menstrual cycle.

So anti-mullerian hormone is helpful for maturation of ovule and ovulation so we can say that anti-mullerian hormone majorly functions for maintaining reproductive life in human females. 

Function of Anti-Mullerian Hormone in Human Male: 

Anti-mullerian hormone is important for development of reproductive organs in male and for this reason its level becomes peak because of its highest requirement but after puberty its level goes down. 

Optimum Level of Anti-Mullerian Hormone: 

Level of Anti-Mullerian Hormone is not fixed in all gender and all age groups; it varies in both male and female with age. However its normal level is 1.2 but it is not always optimum level. 

In human male 15 to 500 ng/ml blood anti-mullerian hormone levels is considered optimum upto the age of two years. From age two to twelve years 7 to 240 ng anti-mullerian hormone per ml of blood is considered to be optimum while in male for more than 12 years old 0.7 to 20 ng anti-mullerian hormone levels is okay per ml of blood. 

In human females normal anti-mullerian hormone levels is less than 5ng/ml upto the age of two, less than 10 ng/ml anti-mullerian hormone levels is normal for the age range 2-12 years.

Normal anti-mullerian hormone levels is 1-10 ng/ml for the female between the age 13 to 45 years but after menopause, after 45 years level of anti-mullerian hormone become very low less than 1 ng per ml blood. 

Disorders for Abnormal Anti-Mullerian Hormone: 

We know that how it is important for development of reproductive organs in humans and in the case of females it is very important for normal reproductive life so if any abnormal condition in anti-mullerian hormone causes abnormalities in the reproduction system in both male and females.

If anti-mullerian hormones do not produce sufficient amounts in humans in foetus conditions then it will cause abnormal male and female genitalia.

Some Facts About Anti-Mullerian Hormone: 

Anti-mullerian hormones give us ideas about some events in our body like its level can be used to predict menopause in human females. Sometimes its level gives us indications about different diseases in our reproductive system, for example its level indicates ovarian cancer and polycystic ovary syndrome.

When the menstrual cycle delays due to unknown reason then this hormone can be useful to know the reason for delay in menstrual cycle and it also helps to know the reason of early menopause.
